With all the publicity of Fifty Shades of Grey (which remains ten months aloof from being released) you would possibly be forgiven for thinking that’s all Jamie Dornan’s been up to for the past year. However you’re wrong alongside starring in TV drama ‘New Worlds’ the 31-year old Irish actor is heading to Cannes next month where his new movie Flying Home will premiere.
Fifty Shades hunk Jamie Dornan stars in Flying Home as Colin, a young American businessman who tries to win a Sheikh’s trust and business by buying him a champion racing pigeon from a Belgium pigeon fancier. When he meets the stubborn owner and his beautiful granddaughter, he begins to believe there’s more to life than the latest deal,” reports Variety. A love story ensues as Colin falls for the granddaughter the stubborn pigeon owner. The film is directed by Belgian art house hero, Dominique Deruddere and is being distributed by Germany’s Media Luna The film’s official poster sees Dornan clad in a very suit, delight those who have already got him pegged as Christian Grey for life, holding a pigeon as feathers fly from the sky. Co-starring with Dornan is Charlotte De Bruyne as well as veteran Belgian actor Jan Decleir. Flying Home will get its premiere at Cannes on May 19th.
Many people may have only heard Dornan’s name after the production team of the movie adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” erotic novel by E.L. James, announced that the 31-year-old Irish actor would be playing the role of Christian Grey. Apparently the Irish actor has been acting for years and had done a lot of auditions in the past, though not to impress the others but for himself.
“We are getting a lot of questions regarding the international release of Flying Home. At this time the film is only being released in Belgium (as of April 2nd)”, the message on the film’s Facebook account reads. “Flying Home will be presented at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May and we will keep you updated on this page about possible new territories and releases. Thank you all for your interest. We hope we can show the film in your country soon!”The actor also recently won two Irish awards, namely Best Actor and Rising Star, for his acting skills in the crime drama series “The Fall” at the 11th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) on April 5. Acting is not only Dornan’s expertise, though. He is also a model—an “underwear” model for Calvin Klein.
Jamie is currently busy shooting the second series of his BAFTA nominated TV drama The Fall but the Belfast set is only a hop, skip and a short flight away from Cannes so we’ve got our fingers crossed that the actor might put in an appearance at the film festival in May. As for “Fifty Shades…”the most recent buzz has been that it might just be tamer than expected, based on footage shown at Cinema Con last month. It’s been reported that the film might put the focus more on the romantic than the erotic when it comes to taking E.L. James’ work to the big screen. The much anticipated film will be released on Valentine’s Day next year.
